Can't We All Just Get Along?

"She’s so fake… "

“He only got the promotion because he kisses up…"

"She works extra hours so she can get more attention from the boss…"

Why don’t Blacks support each other more in the workplace, especially when there are only a handful of us there?

When I first started working, I used to think that just because there were other Black people there, we would all magically get along. Maybe I was naïve, but now I know that being Black doesn’t mean that other Blacks will automatically embrace you. And sometimes the “token Black person” can feel threatened when you are hired.

But that’s just me…. What have your experiences been? Do you think that we tend to support each other or play that hater-ation game?

I want to know what you think and what we can do, if anything to build each other up in our careers.
